Indications :

Dogs

Treatment and prevention of vomiting, including that induced by chemotherapy or motion sickness.

Used in combination with supportive therapy for managing vomiting.

Mechanism of Action :
Â
Maropitant is a neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonist, blocking the binding of substance P in both the central nervous system and peripheral NK1 receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, effectively preventing vomiting.
Dosage & Administration :

Dogs (≥8 weeks) & Cats (≥16 weeks)

Route: Subcutaneous injection

Dosage: 1 mg/kg (0.1 ml/kg) once daily

Duration: Up to 5 consecutive days

Administer at least 1 hour prior to situations likely to induce vomiting (e.g. travel, chemotherapy).

Can be given the day before chemotherapy for prophylaxis.

May be combined with other veterinary treatments based on clinical needs.

Not evaluated in breeding animals, or in cases of gastrointestinal obstruction or toxin ingestion.

Use with caution in hepatic impairment (metabolized by CYP3A, CYP2D15 in dogs and CYP1A in cats).

Monitor closely when used with CYP enzyme inhibitors or other highly protein-bound medications.
